Freshly returned to Manchester, last October I took the Pentax ME-F, armed with 28mm lens and Ilford FP4+ film, for an autumnal wander around the super hip and fast developing Ancoats area of the city.
Anita Street, previously Sanitary Street. Over 120 years old, these houses and the apartment block behind made up Manchester’s first municipal housing scheme. 
The Murrays’ Mill complex dates from 1798 and produced cotton until the 1950s. The buildings were converted to accommodate offices and flats in the 2000s. 
The new “Mansion House” apartment block by Urban Splash, which has been redeveloping run down parts of the city since the 1990s. This building sits next to New Islington Marina, a small oasis in a city centre known for having very few pleasant open spaces.

The marina also provides berthing spaces for residential narrow boats. 
A lock keeper’s cottage on the 225 year old Ashton Canal. The chimney in the background part of the Vulcan Iron Works buildings, now of course, converted to flats. 
Two centuries apart, new houses sit next to the ancient lock keeper’s cottage. 
Islington Wharf, one of the more interesting modern apartment blocks in the area.
