Capturing Manchester’s Frozen Canals: A Mini Pentax 17 Adventure

The first full week of January saw a gentle dusting of snow descend on Manchester, with the waterways around my new home in New Islington freezing over. The marina and surrounding canals were one of the big reasons I decided to move to this area, having been brought up on the coast in Weymouth I find living near water very reassuring and relaxing. The frost brought a new picturesque perspective to the area, so I decided to take my Pentax 17, loaded with Kodak ColorPlus 200, to capture the scenery before it thawed.

I had the film developed and scanned by the local Come Through Lab, who I can highly recommend. The scans and colours are of a high and very pleasing quality, and really capture the atmosphere of the scenes, I have left these scans unedited in terms of colour and brightness. Once again the Pentax 17 also performed very well, though I again seemed to have real trouble keeping the horizon straight when shooting in landscape, I pretty much had to edit all of those shots to get them right.
